The earth is our base, the importance of this universal earth considered as mother by Sanatan Dharma is celebrated worldwide on April 22nd every year. On April 22nd, the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth has a spring season and the Southern Hemisphere has an autumn season. The date of Earth Day is set on the occasion of this polar difference and diversity of weather.
When did the World Earth Day begin to be celebrated?
On April 22, 1970, this day was celebrated for the first time as an environmental education program under the leadership of US Senator Gerald Nelson.
The Earth Conference held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992 gave more motivational support to the need for Earth Day. Then, in 2009, the 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations decided to celebrate April 22 as World Earth Day. Now this day is celebrated with grandeur in more than 192 countries.
Why is Earth Day celebrated?
Increasing population on earth, unorganized urbanization and rapid industrialization have caused many problems. This day is celebrated to reduce these problems and to make people aware about it.

Current Earth Challenges:
Since the 20th century, the rising temperature of the earth is a big challenge. The temperature of the earth is increasing at the rate of 0.18 degrees centigrade every year. Because of this, the ice peaks in the north pole of the earth are melting.
The destruction of the ozone layer, which blocks the ultraviolet rays from the sun, and the occurrence of natural disasters such as hurricanes and tsunamis are increasing. No one else but man himself is responsible for all these things.
Even the highest laboratories that create and manufacture big airplanes and nuclear bombs are not able to create a pinch of soil, soil is nature, air is nature’s tendency and water is life.
The theme of this year’s World Earth Day is:
The slogan of this year’s Earth Day is “Invest in our planet” .
Despite technology and busyness, planting trees, growing greenery, cycling and using renewable energy as much as possible, less use of plastic and knowledge of environmental protection while enjoying nature is the need of the day. Nature is paramount, its protection is our duty. Happy Earth Day to the world May the love of the earth grow from the peak of Mount Everest to the surface of the Dead Sea.
